British privacy supervisor considers fine of 30 million euros for TikTok

The British privacy regulator ICO is considering imposing a fine of EUR 30 million on TikTok for possibly violating privacy legislation. Investigation by the ICO shows that the platform may not have protected the privacy of children and would therefore be in violation of UK data protection law. TikTok may have processed data from children under the age of 13 without parental consent, failed to provide users with easily understandable and transparent information, and processed special categories of data without having the required legal bases to do so. The investigation into the possible privacy violations is still ongoing, but today the ICO reports that it can impose a fine of 30 million euros on TikTok.
